Silvana da Silva Sousa choreographer and principal dancer is a native of the state of Goias in central Brazil and moved to the US in 1989. Silvana soon began dancing with Aquarela to share her love of her culture with her new country. In 1996 she was crowned official Carnaval Queen for the San Francisco Carnaval Grand parade. Silvana is also a Surgical Nurse in an East Bay hospital and teaches regular dance classes in San Francisco. She lives in Berkeley but returns to Brazil every year to indulge herself and get rejuvenated by Brazil's hot rythms and good vibes.
